Lycopene is a potent antioxidant used for preventing atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Lycopene is also used for prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, cataracts, breast cancer, cervical cancer, gastrointestinal tract and colorectal cancer, gingivitis, hypertension, pre-eclampsia, infertility, kidney disease, lung cancer, and asthma. In combination with other carotenoids, such as beta-carotene, vitamin C and E, lycopene can reduce sunburn.
